LESSER BANNISTER SPELLS (affectionately known as: "Lil Ma") the daughter of the late John Bannister and Irene Mack Bannister, Lesser was born on February 5th, 1903 in Ridgeville, South Carolina.

She attended the public schools of Dorchester County formally known as Silver Hill.

In 1925, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Frank Spells also of Ridgeville, South Carolina.  To this union of love, ten children were born (three of whom preceded her in death).

Being reared in a Christian home, at an early age, Lesser became actively involved in the St. John Baptist Church.  She later joined The House of God Church Keith Dominion in Harleyville, South Carolina where she received the gift of the Holy Ghost and has served ever since.  During Lil Ma's final days among us, she spent many sleepless nights and restless days calling on and talking to the God whom she faithfully served.  Sister Lesser Spells quietly and peacefully surrendered to the call of God on Sunday, July 19th, 2010 in her residence in Ridgeville.

Lil Ma was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grand Mother, Great-Great Grand Mother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend who was kind and helpful to everyone.  She found much joy in lending a helping hand, visiting the sick, lifting burdens, encouraging the discouraged, and giving advice to many.  To know Lil Ma was to love her for she was a light to her family, friends, and community.  She was admired and respected by all people and has touched the lives of many who knew her.  Lil Ma was an inspiration.  She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and sense of humor.  She has left a lasting legacy of love, blueprint of perseverance, and foundation of faith.

Those in whom memories of Lil Ma will always last.........

Her loving, devoted children: Rosa Mae (Bishop Willie, Jr.) Walker, Annie F. (Deacon Jacob, Sr.) Walker, both of Ridgeville, SC, Bernice (Reverend Johnny) Hampton of Miami, FL, J. D. (Gladys) Spells, Tommy R. Spells, Daisy B. (Rev. Ernest) Bryant, Oscar (Anna Marie) Spells all of Ridgeville, SC; 24 Grand Children, 66 Great Grand Children, 60 Great-Great Grand Children; her sister, Lucille Felder and special cousin, Jenette White both of Ridgeville, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, adopted family, and many friends.
