Reverend Johnny Hampton Jr. was born on June 8, 1936, in Holly Hill, South Carolina to the late Johnny Hampton and Corine Shuler. He received his education in the South Carolina Public School System. He studied at and graduated from the Keith Bible Institute in Nashville, TN. He received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost under Elder George H. Wright of Harleyville, South Carolina. He relocated to Miami, FL, where he served under the leadership of Bishop W. L. Nelson (State Bishop) and General Elder Marshall J. Harrison (Pastor), along with other leading elements of the church where he was instrumental in the setting up of the Florida City, Perrine, and South Miami churches. He was an environmental specialist at Miami Dade Community College and owner of Johnny’s Roofing and Landscaping Company.
He was a family man with one wife, and they directed their children in the way of Holiness. He was always involved with the local YFFU, where he was very instrumental in bringing the youth and young adults to church. He enjoyed playing the steel and the harmonica. He was one who upheld the laws of God as well as the Decree of the House of God Church, earning the nickname the “Law Man”.
And God created man in his image, and his likeness. On January 16, 2024, Reverend Hampton, The Man, The Husband, The Father, The Family Man, The Preacher God’s chosen one, transitioned from labor to reward earning his heavenly wings. His life’s work impacted many and his legacy will live on to inspire future generations. His legacy will be remembered by his wife of 68 years (Bernice), Johnnie (Mike), Elaine (Naaman), Caroline, Bernard (Cynthia), Jeffery (Fiona), Melanie (Markus) and Merylene. He also leaves the legacy of grandchildren (26), great grands (45), and great-great grands (2). He also leaves his brother Johnny Elmore (Washington), Sisters Barbara Jean Shuler (Holly Hill) and Mary Ellen Hampton (Charleston), Sister-in-laws: Rose Walker, Annie Walker, Daisy Bryant, and Caroline(Miami). Brothers Oscar Spells (Ann Marie) and J.D. Spells and a special nephew Joseph Lee Hampton (Nebraska). A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
