Alphonza Hughes was born to the late Dave and Addie Hughes on July 17, 1933 in Ridgeville, South Carolina. “Foonie/Fonza” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends received his education in the Dorchester County school system.

He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Charlie Ruth who proceeded him in death.

If there was one thing that was known by everyone is that he loved to laugh and share his jokes with everyone his favorite saying was “Watch out dey now”. Fonza loved golf and would often share the highlights with his youngest brother Dave “Toe-Joe” Hughes, Jr.

Fonza worked for numerous companies driving log trucks, cutting trees, doing tile work; in other words he was a master of many trades!

He leaves to cherish his memories: His cherished sister Lucille (David) Moultrie; treasured brother Dave Hughes Jr.; a devoted niece Pamular (Fred) Caviness; a dedicated friend Jobbie Simmons, and beloved cousin Herbert “Bucky’ Lincoln; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.
