Obituary

Ms. Betty Lue Cooper was born on January 1, 1946. After a life filled with service, she peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. Betty's life was guided by faith. At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined the fellowship of Mt. Carmel UME Church. Later in life she became affiliated with Lakepoint UMC. Her educational journey began with her proud graduation from Battery Park High School. Displaying a strong work ethic from the start, in her younger years, she held various positions, including serving as a helpful secretary at Battery Park Elementary School and dedicated employment at Hemingway Apparel. Nurturing her creative spirit, she obtained an associate's degree in interior design from Florence Darlington Technical College. This foundation led to a long and successful career, where she worked faithfully as a valued employee at General Electric Ericsson for over 25 years in Florence, SC, and Lynchburg, VA. At the height of her career, her expertise was so recognized that she was selected for the incredible opportunity to travel to Brazil and train international employees to make cell phones, a testament to her skill and leadership. Upon her passing, Betty was reunited in heaven with her loving parents, Brunson and Corine Wilson Cooper. She was also preceded in death by three dearly departed siblings whom she held close to her heart: Brunson Cooper, Jr., Patty Cooper, and Virginia Ann Odom. Betty's legacy continues through those she leaves behind. She leaves to cherish the fondest of memories her loving and devoted daughter, Tammy Cooper Driffin, and her husband, Lamont, of Columbia, SC. The absolute love of her life and the sparkle in her eye was her only Grandson, Landon Ellis Driffin. Her warm presence and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by her two wonderful sisters, Mrs. Martha Cooper of Hemingway, SC, and Mrs. Edna Mathis of Cross, SC. Her memory will also be treasured by her three supportive brothers, Mr. Thomas Cooper and his wife, Francenia of Florence, SC; Mr. Joe Cooper and his wife, Angelina, of Johnsonville, SC; and Mr. Calvin Richard Cooper and his wife, Carol, of Summerville, SC, brother-in-law, Mr. Ruby Odom of Columbia, SC, and sister-in-law Mrs. Gladys Cooper of Upper Marlboro, MD. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
