The Inception

On September 8th, 1927, Willie Walker, Sr. and Annabell Kennerly Walker welcomed their fifth child of 13 children, Willie Jr. He was educated in the Dorchester County Public School system.

He was employed by the United States Air Force Civil Service as an electrician for over 30 years.

April 26, 1946 was one of the happiest days of his life. It was on this special day that he married, Rosa Mae Spells. To this union, three (3) children were born.

His favorite pastime was gardening. Not only did he provide wholesome vegetables for his immediate family but also for his extending family and the entire community. His wife often told him that he planted such a large garden he must have thought he had 50 hungry children to feed.

The Elevation

He was originally a very loyal and dedicated member of The St. John Baptist church until he met the Elder George H. Wright of The House of God Church. After being inspired by the unadulterated Word of God, Bishop Walker received the Holy Ghost with fire in 1951 and joined The House of God Church Keith Dominion in Harleyville, South Carolina.

It was from this time forward that he worked untiringly for the up-building of God's kingdom. His 1947 Ford and 1950 Packer were always filled past capacity to bring people to church. These 4 passenger cars were transformed into 15 passenger vehicles with four people on the back seat and another four on top of that four and in the front were three people excluding the driver and those three people had three more on top of them. Heads were hanging out of the windows just to get some air. Nobody but Willie Walker would make such accommodations to get people to The House of God church.

Bishop Walker's brother, Jacob Walker, Sr., took his discharge from the US Army in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1955. After being inspired by the Holy Ghost, he called for his brother Willie to come there to help start a House of God Church. Willie, never shying away from a challenge, packed up his family of 5 and on the road they went to Fairbanks, not giving it a second thought. Once in Fairbanks, they began the mission as two deacons. In 1957, he accepted his call into the ministry. Wanting a better place to worship, Reverend Walker spearheaded a building drive to erect an edifice on 20th Street.

Bishop Keith, Chief Overseer, later sent Bishop P. J. Fletcher as State Bishop to Alaska. Bishop Fletcher spent many years in the home of Reverend Willie Walker and his family. The Walker family spent 11 years in Fairbanks, Alaska.

This was the beginning of a lifetime of dedicated work.

The Administration

After returning to South Carolina in 1967, Reverend Walker was appointed to rebuild the church in Dorchester, South Carolina which had burned down many years prior. He arrived to the site and found bricks but had no members and no resources. That did not deter Reverend Walker's spirit, vision, nor his zeal. He took his weekly pay check to support the building of the church, many times his family went without so that the vision of a new church would become a reality.

This was only the beginning. Bishop Walker was instrumental in physically building church edifices in Evergreen, Cayce, and Summerville South Carolina as well as Morton, Mississippi. His electrical wiring expertise is evident in multiple churches and numerous homes.

The Completion

Bishop Walker was preceded in death by his parents, his two children (Willette and Sylvester), one granddaughter (Alfreda Marie) and nine siblings.

Bishop Walker has left a grave impact on countless lives and his memory will last forever, especially in the hearts of his beloved wife of 72 years, Deaconess Rosa Mae Walker; his son, Deacon Alonzo (Thelma) Walker, his six grandchildren: Deaconess Nova Verlyndas Walker-Carter (Elder William), Angela Renee, Christopher Sterling, Orpria LaKisha, Raymona Denise, and Shantaye Centelle; his great grandchildren: Christopher, Jr., Ajia, Imani, Aijalon, Monica, Genesis, Charles III, Jacquez, and Julalia; his siblings: Gertrude Simpson, Martha Haynes, and Ruthie Rumph (General Elder George); his brothers and sisters in law; his "adopted" children, his nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and special friends.
