Charles Henry Aiken was born on November 7, 1938 to the late Henry and Helen Aiken in Summerville, South Carolina. He graduated from Alston High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17. In 1961, Charles wed his high school sweetheart, Viola Willis. From their union two children, Charles Jr. (Chuck) and Marvis were born. Charles was a proud veteran and served his country for over 28 years achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. His military career was defined by discipline, leadership, and a deep commitment to his country and fellow service members. After retiring from the Air Force, Charles received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo College and went on to serve his community in various capacities.
Charles worked as a probation officer in Lubbock, Texas, and as a Children and Family Services counselor in Florida for six years, dedicating his life to helping others and making a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals and families.
A lifelong servant of his faith, Charles was an active member of Bethel AME Church in Summerville, SC, where he served as President of the Usher Board for seven years. Charles loved God, his family and his country. His compassion and commitment to his community extended beyond his military and professional life. Charles was known for offering rides to church members and providing support to those in need. Charles's legacy is one of kindness, service, and faith. His impact on his family, friends, and community will never be forgotten.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Irick Aiken and Henry Wilson Aiken, and his brothers Edward Aiken and Winfred Aiken.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 64 years, Viola Aiken, son Charles Henry Aiken Jr. (Ruth) of Colorado Springs, daughter Marvis Aiken-Wright (Darwin) of Union, NJ, grandsons Darwin (DJ) Wright Jr. of Summit, NJ, and Jacob Wright of Union, NJ, great-granddaughter Marley Wright of Summit, NJ, brother Timothy Aiken (Joanne) of Summerville, SC. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. The family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by his niece, Beryl Aiken and Shaketha McClennon (Healing Hands) for their compassionate and devoted care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethel AME Church.
