Obituary

Dersette Corine Richardson was born April 25, 1938 in Summerville, SC where her parents, the late Annabell Simmons Nolan and Nathaniel Nolan made their home. On Friday, September 14, 2018, Dersette answered the call of the Master and took her rest.

Dersette graduated from Alston High School Class of 1957 and at an early age accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined Baum Temple AME Zion Church. She has been spiritually anchored in the Lord and worked out her Soul Salvation in a Ministry of Music.

Dersette showed at an early age her gift in music by the direction of Jordan and Alma Simmons, her grandparents. At the age of 7, she started playing for Sunday School and Sunday Worship Service under the tutelage of the late Alethia Wright. This opportunity had her prepared for participating in the Choral Club and playing the saxophone in Marching Band at dear old Alston High School.

Dersette married the late Sinclair J. Richardson and made her home in Berkeley County where she was blessed with seven children Alphonzo Richardson (Min. Brenda) of Moncks Corner, SC, Sylvester Richardson (Emily), Kenneth Richardson both of Jacksonville, FL; Sonia Richardson, Kelvin Richardson (Ruthie) and Debra Richardson all of Summerville, SC and the late Vernon Richardson (Leveen) of Jacksonville, FL; six brothers Nathaniel Nolan (Rev. Virginia) of Silver Springs, MD; Oliver Nolan (Janice), Vincent Nolan, Wendell Nolan (Josie), Henry Greene (Lula) all of Summerville, SC and the late Stanley Nolan; sisters-in-law Edna Lary of Moncks Corner, SC and Isabel Richardson of Brooklyn, NY; brother-in-law Elijah

Richardson (Deloris) of Newark, NJ; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Dersette Corine Richardson was like a songbird who witnessed in song and deed which helped to inspire and encourage many. She used music, which is the universal language to heal the world around her.

She will truly be missed.
