On October 8, 2015, in Summerville, South Carolina ,the call of the Heavenly Father to another human soul, Herman Marion McCants, came to carry him away to that mansion prepared for him from the foundation of the world by an all-loving God. Herman was born on February 28, 1932 in Ridgeville, South Carolina, to the union of John Henry McCants and Elouise Green McCants. Herman received his formal education in the public schools of Dorchester County, graduating from Alston High School in Summerville, South Carolina. Upon his graduation, he served his county in the United States Air Force. Once Herman was Honorably discharged from the Air Force, he as so many men of his era was drafted in the United States Army. Herman would serve his country in the 1st Battalion 118 Infantry, National Guard, retiring in February 1992 as Sergeant. After retiring from the military, Herman would go on to work at Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic. In a union that would span over 61 years, Herman married the former Luvenia Murray. Together they raised a family and taught the to honor and love God. As a child, Herman, was raised in and attended Bethel AME Church in Ridgeville South Carolina. He later joined Summerville Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he served as Deacon. Herman loved his family and did all in his power to care for them making sure they were given the best that he could provide in loving care, spiritual nourishment and material comfort. His vert nature was to give of himself, expecting nothing in return. He loved fishing and hunting, even tried to get his girls to learn how to fish. His Lord said unto him, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou unto the joy of thy Lord."
