Obituary

Mrs. Irene Loretta Washington Jones, the daughter of the late Wallace Washington Sr, and the late Lucille Harley Washington, was born on August 16, 1932. Ms. Irene accepted Christ early in her life and attended Wesley United Methodist Church. Ms. Irene was active in many ministries of the church, serving on the Usher Board, the Willing Workers, as a Class Leader, Assistant Class Leader, the Golden Band Ministry and the President of the Senior Choir. Ms. Irene was also a member of Lily Chapter #134, Order of the Eastern Star-Prince Hall Rite of Adoption. Ms. Irene attended Alston High School and was an avid reader. She enjoyed all books, read often, and enjoyed word search. Ms. Irene was also great at knitting and quilting. Each child has a handmade quilt and/or knitted bedspread. Ms. Irene was employed at the Charleston Air Force Base, Civil Service Department, as a House Keeping Supervisor and during that time, she learned how to use a computer. Ms. Irene retired after 32 years of service and rarely took a day off, so when she retired from Civil Service, she was paid all of her many unused hours of sick leave. Ms. Irene was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Lucille Washington, sisters, Mary C. Jefferson, Wilhelmina Jones and brothers William Seabrook, Arnic Washington and sons James Jones, Anthony Jones (Sheron), and Eric Jones who preceded her in death by 4 days. Ms. Irene was also preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Solomon Kerry, Shantell Manlay and 1 great granddaughter, Mykaela. Ms. Irene leaves to mourn her faithful and loving children, Reverend Clayton (Gail), Reverend Solomon (Ann), Reverend Alfonza (Frances), Brenda, Reverend Albert (Carolyn), William, Barbara, Sheila (Bill), 1 sister, Ethel Sloss, 1 sister-in-law Rosalee Washington, 1 brother Wallace Washington and 1 brother-in-law James Sloss, 27 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and special adoptive granddaughter Jeanette Burroughs (Mom's caretaker) and Kathy Singletary (Day companion).Special thanks to Palliative Care, Hospice of Charleston an Amedisys
