Bro. James Smith was born to the late Earlene and Jerry Smith, Sr. on July 11, 1937 in Summerville, SC. Bro. Smith met his appointment with God on Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Leonard James Smith; two brothers, Jerry Smith, Jr. and David Smith; two sisters Zelma Green and Rosa Bell Mitchell. He was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. He was reared in a Christian home and taught the ways of the Lord and grew up in Caanan United Methodist Church after his marriage he joined Baum Temple A.M.E. Zion Church. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former Janette Duffy on August 12, 1961 and to this union two children were born. Bro. Smith was employed as a Machine Operator with Raybestos Manufacturing for over 30 years. Bro. Smith loved his family and his friends. Fishing, working in the garden, and working with his hands doing carpentry was a great joy for him. He lived his life with laughter and a happy spirit entertaining family and friends. To cherish his loving memories he leaves his loving and devoted wife, Janette Smith; A Daddy s Girl, Sonia Doughty; three grandsons, Michael Doughty and Brice Doughty both of Summerville, SC; and Terence Doughty of Orlando, FL; two adopted granddaughters, Erica Johnson and Sheilata Johnson; two brothers, Ervin Smith of Orangeburg, SC and Harold Smith of Summerville, SC; one sister, Geneva Green of Summerville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Smith and Channie Clay Smith both of Summerville, SC and a host of loving nephews, nieces and loving friends.
