John Henry Singleton, 88, of Summerville, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on June 16, 2026.

Born on June 30, 1937, in Charleston, South Carolina, John was the beloved son of the late Reverend Henry D. Singleton and Janie Delaney Singleton. He was also proceeded in death by his daughter Brenda Singleton-Hewlett. He was educated in the Charleston County School system before honorably serving his country in the United States Army, beginning in 1958.

Following his military service, John relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he built a dedicated career with the United States Postal Service. While in New York, he married the love of his life, Louise Johnson, and together they owned and operated a grocery store, serving their community with pride and commitment. After many years of hard work, they retired and returned home to South Carolina, where they settled in Summerville.

John will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father,

and friend who led with humility, strength, and kindness. His calm presence, caring nature, and deep love for his family created a

legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Louise Singleton; his children: daughters Shaquan Jones, Sierra Singleton, Jessie Brown, and Ginger Jackson; sons William Singleton (Dionne),

Barry Singleton, Dedrick Singleton (Sarah), Deandre Singleton, Jessie “Curtis” Johnson Jr., Larry Johnson, and Douglas Johnson.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Latasha McMikle-Lawyer (Rodney), Thomas Brown (Mamiko), Shanequa Brown, Tiffany Brown (Pace), William “Diajai” Singleton, De’Kao Singleton,

Dijion Singleton, Hannah Singleton, Taje’ Singleton, Jaiden

Singleton, Leilani Singleton, Dahlina Johnson, Dasha Rampersant, Dashaun Johnson, Danea Johnson, Jasmine Martin, Michael Hewlett Jr., Sade Jackson, Markel Jackson, and Terrence Singleton; his stepmother Albertha Singleton; his siblings: sisters Barbara White, Janice Davidson (Dale), Donna Jenkins (Shannon), Dr. Johnette Simmons-Smith (Anthony) and Tammie Singleton; brother Edward Singleton (Deborah). He also will be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

John’s legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
