A Time to Be Born And A Time To Die
God's life mission for Lorene Payne Pinckney Lewis started October 6, 1920 in Ladson, South Carolina, there she was born to the late Lillie Payne, Jake and Susie Pinckney. Rene, Red Monk, Lo Lo and Granny as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, gave her life to the Lord under the Christian direction of Wesley Methodist Church where she served along with her mother and father Jake and Susie Pinckney.
A Time to Learn
Lorene was educated in the Charleston County School System.
A Time for Love
One hot summer day in the Rosemont Community, she saw a handsome young man named Sidney Lewis dressed in his finest; he passed her and it was love at first sight. On April 15, 1951 in Charleston, South Carolina, they were married. After their marriage, Lorene and Sidney relocated to Mullins, South Carolina. To this union, they were blessed with nine children.
A Time to Remember
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Lewis, Jr; son Jake Pinckney Lewis; daughters Janice Lewis Anderson Jenkins and baby girl Lewis; brother Marion Smith and Leonard Pinckney; sisters Bernice Fripp, Ann Lark, Mildred Wright and Celestine Deas; granddaughters Ardis Lloyd and Wanda V. Lewis
A Time to Prosper
After Sidney and Lorene relocated to Mullins, South Carolina, she worked in tobacco, later working as a domestic worker for the Lewis Family. Lorene was also a skilled cook, she made the best red rice on that side of Marion County. Lorene and Sidney lived in Mullins for numerous years and in 1961, they relocated to Ladson, South Carolina. Lorene continued in domestic work, for the Roulette, Duncan and Oliver Families. In 1975, Lorene became an entrepreneur and opened the Missile Base Cafeteria, there she employed many young ladies from the community. After ten years of operating the cafeteria, she retired.
A Time to Live
After relocating to Mullins, South Carolina, Lorene and Sidney became members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of Rev. J.L Brooks. Upon returning to Ladson, they became members of Philadelphia Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of Rev. RL Nesbitt. Lorene served in many capacities at Philadelphia as a member of the Pastor's Aid Board, Usher Board, Choir and Kitchen Committee. She served faithfully until her health declined. Upon her death she was the oldest female member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church. Lorene loved fishing, bingo, playing spades and watching the Atlanta Braves. She and Sidney loved traveling with the Ladson Raiders Baseball team and received recognition as team "Mom and Pop." She loved her grandchildren and spent many hours with them. She was a good historian and shared copious amounts of information with her daughters.
A Time to Mourn
On Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:48 pm, the Master called Lorene from labor to reward left to cherish her loving memories, her children Linda Lewis Heyward (Ron), Cynthia Lewis Ross (Michael), Ronald J. Lewis, William J. Lewis (Carolina), Wanda Lewis Staley and Sonya Lewis; adopted daughter Myra Lynette Manigault (Carleton); grandson whom he reared in the home Jake Lewis (Mary); sister Elizabeth Williams; sister-in-law Harriet Lewis Williams; daughter-in-law Ernestine Lewis; special and loving cousin Dorothy Mood Lemon; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, host of cousins and friends. Special caregiver and adopted daughter Wilhelmenia Hunt and special community children the Husser Family
