Mattie
Felder-Blanchard
February 29, 1928 – April 16, 2026
Mattie Jane "MJ" Felder King Blanchard went home to Jesus on Thursday, April 16th at the amazing age of 98. Mattie was born to Ransom Felder Jr. and Mattie Pearson-Felder on the 29th day of February in Ridgeville, South Carolina. As one of thirteen children, she was born into a very big but strong and loving family. She married and gave birth to her beloved three sons. Later moving on and out to New York, she took her boys and embarked on a new adventure in the big city. There, she met and worked with a few of her siblings and began to care for and love her nieces and nephew like additional cherished children.
As the years went by and her children grew up, she found a surprising new love at the factory she worked at. Gods plan to place them together thrust her into the next chapter of her life with an amazing husband, Robert "Bob" Blanchard. Their time in New York came to a close, and they made their U-Turn back to her family home of Ridgeville, South Carolina.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and Great Grandmother, Mattie also known as "Nana" enjoyed babysitting and caring for many children. She was vastly proud of and loved her church. She served with the New Hope UMC Ushers and many other committees and groups. Throughout her entire life, Mattie held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
She was honored to be apart of the following Masonic Affiliations: Pride of McDaniel #334 OES, Heroines of Jericho #7, Order of the Golden Circle # 349, and Arabian Court #128. Mattie worked as a crossing guard at Clay Hill school and as an Assistant Librarian at Harleyville Ridgeville school. She retired from work to enjoy fishing, puzzles, and thrift store adventures. Also enjoyed traveling and cruising with friends and family out of the Charleston, Jacksonville and Port Canaveral ports.
Mattie joins her parents, all her beloved siblings, late husband Bob Blanchard, sons Paul and Ransom King, in Heaven. She is survived by her sister-in-law Roberta S. Felder, cherished nieces, her eldest son Calvin King, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her church family, friends, and a loving circle of dear ones, comforted by the promise of a heavenly reunion.
