Obituary

Psalms 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want….

S udie Bell King , born March 13,1934 to the late Harry E. Geddis and Luetta Hopkins Geddis in the Givhans community of Ridgeville, SC. She attended Canaan School and continued her education at Alston High School where she graduated in 1954. During her high school years, Sudie Bell met the love of her life the late Matthew King. There, they formed a beautiful relationship that blossomed into marriage on December 27,1955. In 1956, Sudie and Matthew moved to Miami, Florida where they lived for forty-three years before returning home (South Carolina) in 1999, where Matthew constructed their residence at 143 Tuggle Lane, Ridgeville, SC. Although she did not have any biological children of her own, she cared for and was loved by all of her nieces, nephews and other children in the Givhans and Charleston community as well as in Miami, Florida. She was the godmother of Delphine Flood, Rosemary Bivins, and E. Roger Mitchell.

During her childhood, she joined Canaan United Methodist Church and sang on the choir until she moved to Miami, Florida. There, she joined St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church where she sang faithfully on the choir. She was employed at Burdines Department Store in Miami, Florida. Upon returning home, she reunited her fellowship with Canaan, where she served on the Senior Choir, United Methodist Women, Wellness Club, Missionary Committee and was an Assistant Class Leader. She was the Financial Secretary of the Hopkins Family Reunion for twenty years and served on the Culinary Committee for the Geddis Family Reunion. She leaves to cherish her memories: three sisters; Anna Mae Flood of Summerville, SC, Barbara Blake of Ridgeville, SC, and Lavern Harrison (Gregory) of Brooklyn, New York, one brother; Rev. Roosevelt Geddis of Ridgeville, SC; 3 siblings preceded her in death; James Geddis, Luther Geddis, and George Geddis; her in-laws Queen Ester Wilson (Leon) and Verneatha King of Summerville, SC, Edna Mae Graham of Charleston, SC, Gwendolyn Armour (Jerry) of Laurelton, New York, and Morris King (Josephine) of Barnwell, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Although she may be gone, the memories of her delicious meals, her contagious laugher and wonderful stories around her dinner table will last a lifetime…especially her love of cats, will not be forgotten. We love you dearly!!! Now rest in peace into the arms of our loving Savior.
