Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Matt. 11:28 Willen Rivers Singletary was called from labor to reward on May 12, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness. She was born on April 22, 1933 to the late Robert Rivers, Sr. and the late Rosa Williams Rivers. Willen was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. At an early age she relocated to York, Pennsylvania. While in York, she was gainfully employed by York County Hospital as a Laboratory Technician. Willen became a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities including, a dedicated member of the Friendship Chorus, and the outreach ministry. In the early 70's, she returned to South Carolina where she reconnected with her home church, Elem Baptist Church. There she served dutifully on many auxiliaries including leading the J.S. Utsey Choir. In her latter years, she united with Pastor Clara M. Rivers and became one of the first founding members of the House of Prayer and Praise Baptist Church, where she served as the Mother of the church and a devoted Trustee until her health declined. Willen was proceeded in death by one sister, Naomi Elmore; one brother Robert "Bob" Rivers, Jr. and one great grandson Greyson Robert Louis Singletary. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her loving and devoted son Elder Alfred (Elder Claireen) Singletary, three brothers, Curtis (Pastor Clara M) Rivers of Dorchester, SC, William Haynes and Moses Haynes of St. George, SC; one sister, Priscilla Haynes of Walterboro, SC; three sisters-in-law, Helen Footman of Harleyville, SC., Nora Bell Anderson of Long Island, NY, and Mary Lee Gould of York, PA; four grandchildren, Tina (Edward) Singletary Scott and April Singletary Davis both of Harleyville, SC, Sedrick (Danielle) Singletary of Charlotte, NC, and Brittany(Jamaris) Singletary.
