Anna Mae Brown was born on the 2nd of June in the year 1931, in Wando, SC to the late William Brown and Essie Porcher Brown. Anna Mae was the sixth out of eight sisters (five sisters preceded her in death). She lived the last 50 years of her life in Bronx, New York.

 

Anna Mae had four children Sue Ellen Brown, Jacklyn Brown Alston, Allen Brown (deceased) and Bruce Brown (deceased).

 

Anna Mae began her education at the Keith School (currently the Keith School Museum) in Cainhoy, SC.  She continued her education at Malcolm - King Harlem College Extension, in NYC, from 1980 - 1984, where she received her High School Equivalency Diploma and later earning her Associate of Arts Degree.

 

Anna Mae worked at Lincoln Hospital as a volunteer and then at the Department of Social Services Soundview Center, as a Clerical Aide for a few years.  She then worked for the City of New York Human Resources Administration at a temporary position.  Shortly after the temporary appointment ended, she was brought back as a permanent employee.  Anna Mae retired from H.R.A. Home Care Department, after 17 years of service.

                                                                                                       

Anna Mae was an active Volunteer and Board Member at the Bethex Federal Credit Union in the Bronx, NY.

                                                        

Anna Mae was a private and independent person and open to new ideas. She loved to laugh and joke.  She was a warm, generous and kind-hearted person, especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was always there for them in times of need, with no regrets.  She was a very picky eater; but, as she would often say, “Went to town” when eating crab legs and fried shrimp.

 

Anna Mae showed her creative talents crocheting blankets, dresses, and hats, adding her own unique touches.

 

She kept her mind sharp with word search and sudoku puzzles.

 

Anna Mae was a believer in God.  She love listening to gospel music, one of her favorites was: Rev. Timothy Flemming Sr. Old Time Camp Meeting Songs.  She was an avid watcher of Columbo, Perry Mason, and Clint Eastwood movies.

 

Cherishing the Life of Anna Mae are:  Her Daughters: Sue Ellen and Jacklyn Her Sisters: Dorothy Glover and Leola Mitchell ; 9 Grandchildren; 16 Great-grandchildren; 9 Great-great grandchildren; a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends
