William “Cephas” Crummey was born on December 25, 1945 in Summerville, SC. He was the fourth child to the late Samuel Crummey and the late Asalee Jenkins Crummey. William was educated at Alston Elementary in Summerville, SC and Baptist Hill High School in Hollywood, SC. After leaving high school, he worked at several grocery stores and as a Store Manager at various Piggly Wiggly’s for several years. Upon retiring he started a Lawn Service business while his health allowed. In his early adult years, William became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC. He later joined Commandment House of Prayer in Yemassee, SC and frequently attended Little Zion House of Prayer in Ravenel, SC. Once he became a Christian, William devoted his life to the Lord. He was a kind-hearted, fun-loving man. He never met a stranger and would open his home to many family members in need of a place to stay.
William departed this life Wednesday, July 13, 2022. We thank God for his life. We are beyond blessed and grateful for ALL He has done for him. William was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Asalee Jenkins Crummey, two brothers, Samuel Crummey, Jr. and Solomon Crummey, Sr. and one grand-son, Caleb Logan. William will be deeply missed. His memories will be cherished mostly by his six children, Remessu “Gary” Greene of Birmingham, AL; Shawn Watkins of Bronx, NY; Kendell Mood of Stafford, VA; Kaisha (Ronald) Hines of Hanahan, SC; April(Brandon) Gentry of Concord, NC; and a special daughter and caregiver Kristian Milan Edwards of North Charleston, SC; One and only devoted sister, Ermine Pemberton-Johnson of Aurora, CO; Eleven Grand-children, Cierah Greene, Isaiah Watkins, Kaheim Mood, Kasaan Mood, Alieon, Mood, Bryce Hines, Jada Logan, Caden Gentry, Aiden Gentry and Terrin Linyard; five special nephews, Neal Pemberton, Esmond Pemberton, Durwin Pemberton, Kenny Crummey and Solomon Crummey, Jr; one special niece, Latonya Denice Hamilton and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
