Mr. Ernest “June” Lewis, son of the late Margret Carter and the late Ernest Lewis, was born on June 11, 1947 in Danville, VA. Ernest was raised in Brooklyn NY, and attended Boys High School, graduating in 1966. After high school he went to college in Corpus Christie, Texas. On May 16, 1981 Ernest married Sheila Jennings, and out of this union came baby girl, Janthina Anna.
Ernest joined the police department in New York before moving to South Carolina with his wife Sheila. He owned two businesses in SC before joining the Charleston Police Department. Ernest loved being a police officer, his deep passion and many stories he loved to share about his job. Ernest loved to talk about life and give advice to family, friends, and coworkers. He was admired for his warm nature and infectious spirit.
Ernest’s loved all sports as long as it was a New York team; his favorite teams were the New York Giants, Yankees, and Knicks. He loved visiting his friends in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where he was affectionately called Uno. He also loved listening to 60’s music, especially Motown. Ernest’s favorite song with his wife Sheila was “Always and Forever” by Luther Vandross.
Ernest was preceded in death by his mother Margret Carter, father Ernest Lewis and wife Sheila Lewis. Ernest leaves to morn, daughter Janthina (Shaun) Moorer, grandchildren (Maddox Lewis, Deshaun Moorer and Kennedy Moorer), sisters: Yvonne Latta and Yolanda (Will) Jones, brothers: Matthew (Tonia) Carter and Gregg Williams, nieces Margaretta (Mike) Sherrod and Chanell (Sean) Williams, nephews: Jerry (Adonis) Latta, Jason (Andretti) Latta, and Matthew Carter Jr., best friend: Frank (Terry) Barrett, and a host of friends, family, and in-laws.
