James Harold Williams Jr. , son of Janet Mildred Hampton and James Harold Williams Sr. was born on October 12, 1958 in Ridgeville, SC . He was the first of 4 children. Harold grew up as a
member of The House of God Church and received his education in Dorchester County schools and Queens, NY. He was introduced to the Hawaiian Guitar by Elder A.B. Barber at The House of
God in New York City. He took two lessons with her and took off from there. He was a member of band #2 Brooklyn and later band #1 Bronx under the leadership of his mother General Elder Janet Hampton. In 1989, Harold moved to South Carolina and was a member of House of God Churches in Summerville, Five-Mile, St. Stephen, Cottageville, and Ridgeville. He later became a member of House of God Grover under Tr. Elder Janie Britt. In 2004, Harold was part of a ETV special entitled Sacred Spaces of the Charleston Low Country. He played alongside Leroy Garner on Bass and Gerald Williams on drums. He was a musician for many churches in the community and always found time to teach others how to play various instruments. On Wednesday morning, March 1, 2023, Harold departed this earthly life. He leaves to mourn, his daughters Shanera (George Ray) Jordan, Charleston, SC and Jessica Williams, Summerville, SC; 4 Brothers; Sherman Williams, Ridgeville, SC; Randolph Hampton, Jamaica, NY; Gary Hampton, Orlando, FL; and Antonio Carter, Jacksonville, FL; 2 Aunts, Charlotte Dantzler, Summerville, SC; Betty (Wendell) Coburn, Ridgeville, SC; Godchild Ebony Whitehurst-Henry, Chesapeake, VA; special friend Karen Benton, St. George, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, relatives, and many friends.
