Marie Thomas Obituary

Marie T. Thomas was born to Roosevelt Thomas and the late Manolia Thomas on September 05, 1940.  After spending most of her life in SC; being educated in the local schools and receiving her degree from Allen University where she was an outstanding basketball player, she met and married the love of her life, the late Alvin “Clay” Thomas.  They later relocated to Freeport, New York where the two started their family and were blessed with 2 children.  After returning to SC in 1966, they were blessed with 3 additional children.  She had a heart as big as gold which she shared for 27 years before retirement at the South Carolina Dept. of Mental Health and Special Needs. She accepted Christ at an early age and held memberships in congregations in New York and South Carolina. Despite her failing health, she continued her service at Bethel AME Church, Summerville until the Lord called her home.  She served faithfully and held many offices over the years at Bethel which included the Trustee Board, Women’s Missionary Society, Pulpit Aide Board, Lay member, Helping Hands Ministry and many others. She not only served herself, but made sure her children were brought up to love the Lord. Her family was her pride and joy.  She enjoyed attending all types of sporting events because in her family, she basically had a child, grandchild, niece or nephew in every sport.  Football, basketball, swimming and track and field were at the head of the line. Preceding her in death were her mother, Manolia Thomas; brother, Tyrone Thomas and her husband, Alvin Clay Thomas. She leaves to mourn her father, Roosevelt Thomas; 2 siblings, Catherine Matthews (Steve), Manolia Cook; sister-in-laws Anna Laura Thomas, Delores Richo; brother-in-law, Charles Thomas.  Loving children, Stephenia Thomas, Sharon Rashad (Sha’Reff), Alva White (Chris), Anthony-Michael Q. Thomas, Dawn Frazier.  Grandchildren, Martin Thomas (Rina), Corenzo Wilson, Brandon Matthews, Willie Thomas (Danielle), Sha’Reff Rashad, II, Shakeel Rashad, Alana White, Christopher White, Aisha-Maree Frazier, Orlando Frazier, II, Areale-Maree Page (Demetrius), Ajawnee-Joe’l Frazier. Great Grandchildren, Raven, Robyn, Jordan, Aaliyah, Raymon, Maki, King, Emari, Kanai, Sha’Reff, III. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Marie” to so many including Laverne, Vickie, Myricck, Jamie, Terrance, Roland, Jr., Kristin, Charles, Jr., Michael, Claudia, Donald, Clarence, Heather, Melissa, Thomas, and the list goes on and on.  They all knew and loved her as if they were her very own.  She will also be missed by 2 of her special friends, Gladys Edge and Cotlin Mackey.  To Know Her Was To Love Her!
