Rev. Jonnie Hill Obituary

On Monday, April 3, 2023, God chose one of his beloved servants and prayer warrior to come home, Reverend Jonnie Mae Cummings Hill. She was born December 27, 1930, in Summerville, South Carolina to the late John and Annie Vose Cummings. Jonnie was one of six children; Four of which preceded her in death: Louise Lemon, Jenice Brown, Anna Helen Nolan, and Herbert Cummings. Her baby brother Pastor Cleveland Cummings Sr. of Baldwin, New York is the Pastor of Amityville Church of God. Reverend Hill was educated in the Dorchester County School System. After graduation from high school, she moved to Freeport, New York. She became a member of Freeport Church of God on Bennington Avenue in 1950. Later, it was under the
leadership of Pastor Linette Clark that she accepted her call to the ministry. She studied at Bethel Bible Institute, Christian Bible Institute, and in- service training at Anderson, IN, School of
Theology. Reverend Hill matriculated and is a graduate of Nassau Community College where she studied nursing and became a registered nurse. She worked and retired from A. Holly Patterson
Extended Care Nursing Home (Uniondale, New York) after twenty-four and a half years of dedicated service. She relocated to Summerville, SC where she worshipped and served as an Associate Minister at Brownsville Community Church of God under the leadership of Rev. Robert L. Toliver, Senior Pastor. She was united in marriage to Mr. Canior Hill. They were blessed
with two sons; Canior Hill, Jr., and John David Hill (Tania). They both preceded her in death. Later she adopted three children, and fostered many, many more. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Michael “Dung” Hill (Lanbrena), and Rasheed Hill; and one daughter Tanisha Hill. (all of Long Island, New York) Also, her grandchildren Dorian George Canior Hill, and Brea Elizabeth Marie Hill (Atlanta, Georgia), Mikayla Hill and Raven-Anai Hill (Long Island). Daughter-in-law Tania Hill. (Lithonia, Georgia) Also, one brother Pastor Cleveland Cummings Sr. of Baldwin, New York. And a special nephew, Dr. Anthony Lemon, who was like a son to her, and his wife Jo-Ann. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and very good friends. Rev. Hill was a Mother to so many. Reverend Hill was the leader of the Early Morning Pray Group. She was called and anointed by God to proclaim His word and to make known His name for the gift of eternal life. She was blessed with His gift of prayer and faith. She believed in divine healing. Reverend Hill is “one who loves the Lord, fears the Lord, believed his word and stood on His promises.” Reverend Hill’s greatest joy was to see souls being saved and fully committed to Christ, letting others know that God uses ordinary people, taking them out of darkness into light, filling them with His spirit and enabling them to do extra ordinary things.

Life Scripture
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him, I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him…” Psalm 91:14-15
