Sheila Lewis Obituary

Sheila Jennings Lewis, affectionately called, Gagoon and Mama, was born on June 7, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Henry and Allie Jennings. In 1975 she graduated from Hunter College in New York City and received her BSN degree.  She was an RN for 44 years. Her nursing career began at Veteran Hospital and the South Side Hospital in New York City and continued at Trident Hospital in North Charleston, South Carolina.

On May 16, 1981 Sheila became a beautiful bride and married Ernest Lewis and out of this reunion came a loving baby girl Janthina Anna.  

In 1990 Sheila and her family relocated to Summerville, South Carolina.  Throughout her life Sheila remained a prominent inspiration in the lives of family, coworkers and friends.  She interacted and loved all of her grandsons. Sheila also loved to hear her husband sing their favorite song “Always and Forever.”  Her face would always light up with joy. She was admired by friends and family for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Sheila had a passion for being an RN and helping the sick and giving sound advice to anyone who requested her assistant.  She loved gardening, and her two favorite hobbies were knitting and the Casino. She was an avid music lover and loved to travel the world.  She travel to: Paris, Peru, Bahamas, Spain, London, Greece, Hawaii, Africa, Croatia, and all over Italy. Her last trip was to Dubai. On Friday, November 29, 2019 she was peacefully called home.

Shelia’s parents Henry and Allie preceded her in death.  She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Ernest Lewis her caring daughter Janthina Moorer, son-in-law Shaun Moorer, grandsons:  Maddox, Deshaun and Kennedy, sister Sherry Hatcher, brother Lawrence Carter, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
