Stella Aiken Obituary

Stella Myers was born on May 2, 1926, an only child to the union of the late Freddie and Ida Limehouse Myers in Dorchester County, South Carolina. This rose blossomed in our lives until she departed this world to sit at the foot of God’s throne on Monday, July 8, 2019.

Stella was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and with hard work and dedication, proudly returned to school to complete her high school studies while working full time. She was presented her GED in 1974. At an early age she began her Christian walk as a member of Baums Temple A.M.E. Zion Church of Summerville, South Carolina. She loved to sing and was among the soloists of the church choir until she met the love of her life, the late Samuel Edward Aiken of Lincolnville, South Carolina. She relocated and joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Lincolnville, South Carolina. Stella and Edward built their lives, their family and shared a marriage commitment of 50 years before Edward’s passing on November 19, 2002.

Stella was committed to serving others. She opened her heart in many ways and volunteered and led many groups of youth and adults in choir, worship, prayer, program events and community affairs. She loved to quilt, scrapbooking, reading, and was very active member of the Summerville Senior Citizens group. Stella had the talent of making beautiful floral arrangements for everyone to enjoy. She worked for many years at the South Carolina Coastal Rehabilitation Center in the private service until she retired.

She was grateful and praised God continuously for a long and happy life and all while she never complained. She thanked him for allowing her to be her family’s matriarch living to be the oldest cousin, historian and mentor to many.

After Edward’s passing, she would spend her remaining life with her five children, eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends. Stella was woman of pride, dignity, and boldness while preserving the beauty of being a lady of class. She wore a bold smile and her love extended equally to all.

Precious memories shall forever remain with her five children, Rosa Lee Myers of Summerville, S.C., Rochelle Green of Hampton, VA, Tyrone Aiken (late Deborah) of Lincolnville, SC, Lorain Huger (Harold) of Smithfield, NC, and Rudel Aiken of the home; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
