On Friday, November 17, 2023, at Trident Medical Center, this servant, Deacon William “Stack” Way, was called home to rest. He was born on March 17, 1935 to the late Pearly and Ida Glenn
Way. He was the 4th child of 12 children. William received his education at Enoch Station School in Givhans, SC. On November 2, 1957, he married Dorothy Council and from this union they were blessed with five children. As a young man he moved his family to Washington, DC, where he was employed as a roofer and a truck driver. He moved from pouring hot tar to driving trucks. In 1976, William and his family returned to Ridgeville, SC, where he was employed by Santee Cement Trucking Company and later with Carter Transfer Company until he retired.
William spiritual journey started at an early age at Enoch Station United Methodist Church. He later joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he was baptized in 1984, later becoming an ordained Deacon. During, his Christian experience he served on many different boards and auxiliaries with the Baptist field. He served on the Executive board of the Bethel Union, The
Bother-hood, Male Chorus, Usher Board, and more. He was a faithful member of several Masonic Lodges since 1954, until health issues slowed him
down; McDaniel Lodge #435, MLK Jr Consistory #349, Herron of Jericho, Eastern Star, and many others.
William enjoyed singing, watching westerns, attending church, masonic events, and most of all spending time with his children.
William was proceeded in death by his wife Dorothy Council and seven siblings; James Way Sr., Eugene Way, Dorothy Lee Way, Wallistine Powell, Bessie May Way, John Henry Way, and
Catherine Way Glenn.
He leaves to cherish his memories; a loving daughter, Betty Gene Martin of Ladson, SC; four sons, Curtis Way of Harleyville, SC, Gerome Way of St. George, SC, Timothy Way of Jacksonville, FL, and Darrin (Beatrice) Way of St. George, SC; three grandchildren, Eric and Daytron Martin, and Myeshia Wilson; four great grandchildren; Damari, Amayah, Christopher, Jarrell (aka JJ) three sisters; Lillian Cobbs, Beluah Anderson of Washington, DC; one brother, Leroy Way of Givhans, SC; two sisters-in-law, Louise Way of Givhans, SC and Margaret Council of Ridgeville, SC; one brother-in-law, Hesikiah (Betty) Council of Cottageville, SC. A devoted friend Mrs. Jeanette Washington and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
