Zera M Champaigne

Zera Mae Champaigne was born in Charleston, SC to the late Ruth Mitchell and Joseph Hilliard. Zera graduated from Baptist Hill High School in 1971. She later attended a community college to receive a degree in education. Zera joined St. John Baptist Church of Ravenel at the early age of 9, where she served as a Missionary, a member of Choir #2, and a Deaconess for 60 years. In 1981, Zera and Richard was joined in holy matrimony and raised a beautiful family in North Charleston. Zera worked as a headstart teacher for over 25 years until she retired in 2004.During her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing candy crush and caring for children. Most of all, Zera LOVED attending church and worshiping God. She would always say, “She will never be ashamed to Praise the Lord”.She was proceeded in death by her mother Ruth Mitchell, father Joseph Hilliard, her brother Kenneth Martin, her son Jamar Martin-Champaigne, and her sister-in-law Donna Champaigne.Zera leaves to cherish her memories her husband Richard Champaigne; 3 daughters Monique Champaigne, Sovetria Blunt (Bernard Jr.), and Courtney Rivers-Brown (Erik); 10 grandchildren Dewayne Jr., Cierra, A’keil Jr., Jaden, Alanah, Justin, Ariana, Julian, and Bernard III; 1 brother Carlos Martin (Janice); 4 sisters, Sharon Mitchell, Vanessa Gordon (Willie), Lisa Newkirk (Alan), and Janice Lloyd; 1 aunt Sadie Jordan of New Jersey; 3 in-laws Timothy Champaigne, Pamela Fields (Monroe Sr.), Cynthia James; godchild Tamera Martin; best friends, Sylvia Nelson and Muriel Jones and a host of nieces and nephews.
